Climb Machame Route on Kilimanjaro profile
The Machame route is the most scenic and interesting route option on Kilimanjaro. On this route you will traverse up and down over river valleys on the southern slopes. This increases the body’s ability to acclimatize more properly. This route is definitely recommended for people experiencing high altitude mountaineering for the first time. A minimum of 6 days on Mount Kilimanjaro is needed, but for more comfort and to increase your chance of success, 7 days are recommended. Accommodation on this route will be in tents.

related problems. Your sleeping arrangements will be in tents that is part of the package with Dream World Adventures. At this point you will have the choice of either ascending higher to Lava Tower, or to take the lower road down to the Barranco encampment. It is of utmost importance to ascend very slowly here to avoid altitude-related problems. This part is also normally very warm and dry so remember to cover up with sun block and to drink water regularly. From Shira to Lava Tower will take you approximately 4 hours and from Lava Tower to the Barranco camp approximately 3 hours.

Day 4 on Kilimanjaro
Starting point Barranco camp at +/- 3 950m
End point Barafu camp +/- 4 550m
Terrain Alpine Desert
Distance to walk +/- 11 Km
Hiking time About 7 hours
Start as early as possible to cross over the Great Barranco wall. The wall looks more difficult and intimidating than it is, but will still take you the best of 2 hours. From the top of the wall a couple of valleys need to be crossed before reaching the Karanga valley. Here you will be served a big lunch before continuing onto the Mweka route. The Karanga valley runs a small river and this will be your last water point prior to your descending from the summit. Your guide will also advise you on this fact. We now continue on the Mweka route up towards the Barafu camp. This day will take you approximately 7 hours to complete. It is our recommendation to add an extra day on the mountain to complete this day. You will Machame route 05 Barafu camp on Kilimanjaro
then instead of hiking all the way to the Barafu camp, split the day in half to overnight at the Karanga valley encampment. Doing this, you will shorten the following day so that you can reach the Barafu camp earlier which will allow you much more time to rest prior to your summit attempt.
Extra acclimatization day:
It is our recommendation to add an extra day on the mountain to complete this day. You will then instead of hiking all the way to the Barafu camp, split the day in half to overnight at the Karanga valley encampment. Doing this, you will shorten the following day so that you can reach the Barafu camp earlier which will allow you much more time to rest prior to your summit attempt.

Day six on the Kilimanjaro Machame route itinerary
Day 5 on Kilimanjaro
Starting point Barafu camp +/- 4 550m
First major landmark Stella Point at +/- 5 685m
Second major landmark Uhuru Peak at +/- 5895m
End point Mweka camp at +/- 3 100m
Terrain Alpine Desert scree slope with ice/snow and Glaciers
Distance to summit +/- 7 Km
Total distance to walk +/- 30 Km
Hiking time About 18 hours
Machame route 06 Uhuru peak on Kilimanjaro Around midnight you will have to start your final ascent to the summit. You will be woken with tea/coffee and biscuits. This part of your hike will be done at night to be able to reach Stella Point around first light (+/- 7 hours from Barafu camp). This will be by far the most difficult part of your hike, as you will not only be hiking on a slope of loose gravel, but also be doing so at altitude. Remember to constantly be on the move and only take short breaks every 2 hours or so to avoid getting cold. Your equipment that you have on should be able to assist your body to warm itself, and to keep cold wind out, but when not moving this becomes more difficult. Once
arriving at Stella Point, people tend to stay too long and subsequently turn around at this point. Do not spend more than 10 minutes here as you still have the last leg of your trip to complete. Another +/- 1 hour’s hike and you will have reached Uhuru Peak – the highest point in Africa! After this amazing and emotional experience you will return to Barafu camp via Stella Point. This will go a lot faster than when you summited and you should arrive back at Barafu camp before lunch time. Enjoy a light lunch and a short break before continuing down with the Mweka route to the Mweka camp, where you spend your last night on the mountain.

Day seven on the Kilimanjaro Machame route itinerary
Day 6 on Kilimanjaro
Starting point Mweka camp at +/- 3 100m
End point Mweka gate at +/- 1 980m
Terrain Rain forest
Distance to walk +/- 15 Km
Hiking time About 4 hours
No need for walking slowly anymore, yet it is also not necessary to run. Enjoy the scenery as you walk thought the rain forest. Lunch will be served at the Mweka gate around 12h00. It will take you approximately 4 hours to reach the gate from Mweka camp. From the gate you will be collected and returned to Hotel Springlands for a celebration dinner.
All successful mountaineers that have reached Uhuru Peak or Stella point will be presented with a unique certificate to commemorate your achievement.

Congratulations to Reggie Govender guided by Yesse Lema for a successful summit of Kilimanjaro on the Machame 7 day route on Wednesday morning 07 Oct 2015. One of the most common questions clients ask us is when is the best time to plan a Kilimanjaro adventure. All high mountains around the world are very unpredictable as far as weather patterns and here we have an fitting example of this. On Sunday the 3rd of October we had another group, brothers Gary & Ian Geldenhuis, who experienced clear, albeit windy weather higher up. Reggie reached the summit only a couple of days later, in trying conditions and arrived at a snow-covered summit, as his photo bears witness to. No person on earth can predict the weather accurately and for this reason your preparation is integral to a safe and successful adventure! Kilimanjaro Machame 7 day Reggie Govender
Kilimanjaro Machame 7 day Megandra Naidoo Congratulations to Megandra Naidoo guided by Wilson for a successful summit of Kilimanjaro on the Machame 7 day route on Thursday morning 01 Oct 2015. Sadly Dheonashin Naidoo had to descend from the mountain due to altitude related problems, but has indicated will be back soon to give the summit another go.
