Tanzania Wildlife migration



| THE TANZANIA WILDLIFE MIGRATION & IT'S ROUTES ARE SUBJECT TO THE CHANGE IN THE RAINFALL PATTERNS |
| JANUARY |

The migration is concentrated in the southern area of the Serengeti, with some of the game moving into the Ngorongoro crater. At this time you find a large number of Zebra foals. |
| FEBRUARY |
|
A large concentration of Wildebeest, Zebra, Eland and Gazelles are found in the southern area of the Serengeti. With a large number of Wildebeest foals, predators are also very active. |
| MARCH |
|
At this time the long rain season normally starts. With the grass in the area starting to get less, you know that the great migration will start soon. |
| APRIL |
|
With the rain now in Tanzania, and food no longer in abundance, the migration slowly starts moving north. The concentration of wild life will now normally be around the Seronera area. |
| MAY |
|
Following the Mbalageti River, the migration now moves up to the Grumeti area. This is normally the middle of the long rain season and long columns of wildebeests are a common sight. |
| JUNE |
|
With the long rain season almost at an end large numbers of wildlife start to cross the Grumeti River. The resident crocodiles are now in action. |
| JULY |
|
Now the migration turns right into a northeastern direction. Most of the wildlife will now be in the Ikorongo Controlled Area and the Lobo Area. |
| AUGUST |
![]() The concentration of the wildlife is now in the Ikorongo Controlled Area. The mornings are normally cold during this time. |

| SEPTEMBER |
![]() The migration now starts to enter the Maasai Mara Game Reserve. |
| OCTOBER |
|
The concentration of wildlife is now in the Maasai Mara Game Reserve. This is normally the driest time of the year in the Serengeti. |
| NOVEMBER |
|
With the normal short rain season in Tanzania, the wildlife now moves down to the southern area of the Serengeti. |
| DECEMBER |
![]() With plenty of new grass in the Serengeti the wildlife is once again in the southern area of the Serengeti. Now the migration circle is complete. |
